Batch 20030713 - Steve's Pale Ale

Name: Steve's Pale Ale
Style: Pale Ale
Status: Gone!
Ingredients:
6.6 lbs. Munton's Light Malt Extract
1/4 lb. Crystal Malt (60)
2.5 oz. Styrian Goldings hop pellets
(bittering, 4% AA, 10 HBU)
1/2 oz. Cascade hop plugs (flavor)
1/2 oz. Cascade hop plugs (aroma)
1 pkg. Wyeast 1028 London Ale Yeast
O.G.: 1.047
F.G.: 1.014
Notes:
  1. I wanted to use Kent Goldings hops for bittering, but the local homebrew shop didn't have any, so I ended up using Styrian Goldings.
  2. Primed for bottling with 1 1/8 cup of extra light DME boiled in 8 oz. water.
  3. Carbonation took a while, but it finally came through after two weeks in the bottle.
  4. Tasting notes (8/18): A bit too malty and chewy for style (attenuation was on the low side), with a bit of a caramelized flavor from the stovetop (yeah, yeah, yeah... I know...), but quite nice on the whole.  Smooth, with a balanced hop bitterness.  Perhaps a wee bit heavy on the hop flavor, though.  Aroma is pungent.
  5. Tasting notes (8/24): Oh yeah, this is good.  Don't let my previous notes fool you... this is a very tasty beer!   It's more balanced now after a little more aging.  Smooooooooooth drinkin'.  Only 24 bottles left!
